I was ready for the hike after weeks of preparations work. We ( me and Tai Yong) set off at 9am after the morning inspection. The weather was just fine, just fine for a scout exploration test. Unknown to me, this hike would be a different one, very different from what I had expected to be.

We would be travelling from Yangzheng Pri Sch to East Coast Park This hike was very important to me, because it would determine my promotion status.

We could finally have our lunch at 12noon, in the Kampong Chai Chee Community Centre. However, Tai Yong decided to pull out from the hike because of leg problems. I felt emotionally down at this point of time, but luckily my scout leader Wilson told me to carry on the hike myself.

The second half of the hike was a difficult one. The weather had changed suddenly and there was thunderstorm for the rest of the afternoon. I struggled with pain, not only physical but psychological. I told myself that I must never violate the rules of the exploration by taking bus rides etc. I had come to realise that I could not do many things fast and easily alone.

At last I reached my resting point. I went home immediately, since sleeping overnight alone in the park was dangerous. The exploration test had actually tested my mental determination, rather than my physical strength. Zzzz, I had to continue tomorrow's hike early in the morning again.
